fun little activity

i was reading a discussion board a week or two ago and came across a thread called, "have you ever bought all the albums of an artist?" and for some reason, i thought that sounded like just the greatest little game to play. i have a pretty big (and varied) music collection, and i think i am the type of person who really gets into the artists i like. turns out that i have all the albums of a *bunch* of artists (including side projects, solo albums, or random soundtracks that contain one song). i’m posting my list here for posterity… but i’m only including artists/bands that have more than 2 albums out, because to do otherwise almost feels like padding the list.

clay aiken
tori amos
barenaked ladies
cake
cocteau twins
death cab for cutie
eminem
david gray
the innocence mission
jude
lisa loeb
dave matthews band
george michael

  1. i looove death cab as well. do you also have the postal service album? i dig that one.
there’s an acoustic DCFC track (a movie script ending) on the wicker park soundtrack, in case you hadn’t heard that yet… not to mention a postal service cover of “against all odds.”
…and the garden state soundtrack has a cover of “such great heights,” which is interesting, but i do prefer postal’s version.
and please allow me to also take this opportunity to completely famewhore and say, “i kissed morrissey!” hee.

  3. You kissed morrissey? Wow! Postal service rocks too. Completely addictive little ditties. They have a new EP out with some mixes of We Will Become Silouhettes (sp?) that’s pretty cool.

  5. hee, Hanuman! i have several things from each of those bands, but not the entire catalogue.
i will try to keep the morrissey story short and sweet for the benefit of those who have heard it a million times and are rolling their eyes already. 😉
i ended up with front row (orchestra pit) tickets and was soooo psyched to jump on stage (which is extremely common at his shows), when we were informed by security that anyone who tried it would be out on his/her butt. the crowd was super angry; “but he LIKES it when people get on stage!!!” and the whole bit. security stood firm.
during the show almost no one dared try it. one girl did, and we actually saw her get let back in, so during “suedehead” i decided i had to just go for it and i tried to hoist myself up onto the stage. being very short, i needed a boost, and the crowd helped… but then the security guy grabbed my ankle and would not let go. morrissey saw me, strolled over to me, took my hand, and during the instrumental part of suedehead he started ad-libbing, singing, “don’t let me go” and i swooned and he was pulling my hand and the security guy was pulling my leg and it was all so crazy.
eventually the security guard got cranky and yelled “fine!” and threw my foot at me. it was very graceful-looking, as you can imagine. morrissey helped me to my feet and i gave him a huge hug and a kiss and then i had to leave the stage. they let me back in the concert and as i walked back up to my seats, everyone treated me like royalty; they were so excited that i got up on stage and i was so excited and stupidly proud. 🙂 the next day on the shuttle bus to college, i overheard some people talking about me (“and then this girl tried to get on stage and the guard grabbed her leg! but morrissey wanted her up there!”) and i was giggly about it for weeks. nay, years.
