vegan at the movies

today i went to see juno (finally!) at a theatre near my house. i haven’t been to this particular theatre in a really long time, but it’s a cool old theatre that’s all artsy and whatnot. anyhow, after i bought my ticket i took a quick peek at the concession area, and the first thing that jumped out at me was the word “vegan” on the sign. i did a double-take and realized that they were selling alternative baking company cookies, and the sign said, “ABC VEGAN COOKIES.” how awesome is that? i didn’t buy one, and i didn’t stick around to peruse the rest of the offerings (i was cutting it close to the start time), but i was totally excited to see that they had vegan goodies behind the counter. yay!

  1. Hey,
They have vegan Alternative Baking Company cookies at the theatre near me as well (here in Seattle)! I definitely buy a cookie when I go there to support the vegan snacks.
What city are you in? That’s awesome that theatres are getting more vegan friendly.

  2. You think the cookies are a treat? Being the slow person I am, I thought all popcorn was made from real butter…when I first discovered that the popcorn at the Sunshine Landmark here in NYC (just like all popcorn for the most part that’s popped using a machine) is made with sunflower oil, I flipped. I lubbed it. And they have delicious cookies and even vegan hot dogs at the Sunshine. Truly a great experience.

  3. alicia–you’re absolutely right, and i felt a little guilty NOT buying one for precisely that reason! in most circumstances i am totally That Vegan (gotta show support! buy buy buy!) but this time i was nervous because there was a line and my movie was just about to start. next time, i promise!
billy–i’m in the midwest, in a fairly large city that’s very close to a gigantic city. 😉 lookit how secretive i am! heh. let’s just say i’m not anywhere as vegan-friendly as portland or seattle or ithaca, but my city has definitely been making some great strides lately. 🙂
